Fritzmeier CABS and ZIEGLER develop high-tech cab for airport fire trucks

Manufacturers are already considering design changes to make industrial vehicle cabins more hygienic. The pandemic could propel this area of vehicle design forward.

The question of whether an aircraft fire on a runway can be put out or not is decided in just minutes. That means the outfitting and equipping of the firefighting vehicles are critical. With the new Z-Class ZIEGLER is setting a new benchmark, with up to 1540 hp engine power, stepless gearing and up to 19,000 litres of extinguisher.

Earlier this year Fritzmeier CABS announced its involvement with the HMI Cluster - a group formed to create a uniform standard for human maschine interface (HMI) designs.

At IVT Expo’s Industrial Vehicle Cab Design & Technology Conference in Cologne today, cab designers from Fritzmeier Cabs, and its collaborators, were able to reveal more about ambitions for the new HMI Cluster project.

The interface technologies and systems an operator uses are of vital importance, but perhaps more important is the overlooked cab itself.

The Cab Concept Cluster (CCC) is a cooperative industry association set up to push the boundaries of cab design. We launched the construction-focused Genius Cab at Bauma 2016 and the agricultural Smart Cab at Agritechnica 2017.

In the not-too-distant future, cabs may well look just like this Smart CAB. The CAB Concept Cluster, a collaborative partnership of 13 manufacturers and institutions, presented a study model at the Agritechnica trade fair, and the prototype is brimming with innovations.
